I see on Facebook that Sharon Kay Penman is getting closer to completing “Lionheart” – well, Richard is in the Holy Land – so I suppose there is still a fair way to go

I also see that she mentions that “Devil’s Brood” is now available as an e-book (from Penguin) – which is great.

John Lescroart’s latest “Treasure Hunt” has debuted in the top ten of the New York Times List (as of 11th Jan 2010)

No surprise really – he is such a good writer.  If you are looking for some one to read who is as good as Michael Connelly, then Lescroart is your man.

With Lescroart you get a similar ability at characterization, plotting and storylines as Connelly, but with his own unique qualities and reader satisfaction.

Highly Recommended

The success of “The Scarecrow” and last year’s “Nine Dragons” simply endorses Michael Connelly as one of the great writers.

The good news is that “The Scarecrow” has now been released as a paperback in the USA and Canada, with other countries getting it in May.

It is NOT a Harry Bosch novel – but just as good – because Connelly is such a good writer. Jack McEvoy is laid off from the LA Times and decides to go out with a bang. He reunites with FBI Agent Rachel Walling to go after a killer who has worked completely below police and FBI radar.

I always get a huge amount of satisfaction from reading his new novels and re-reading previous ones, which I do from time to time.

My holiday reading has been focused on catching up on books I missed such as James Lee Burke’s “Swan Peak”.

In Swan Peak we find, Dave, Clete – along with Molly doing their Louisiana thing in Montana. The latter State was a place they head to to get away from it all – rest and fishing being the order of the day – until murder creeps in!

Burke never lowers his standards – so again you get great plotting, prose that inspires and characters you will always like. Well, the good ones that is.

Into some re-reading of Reginald Hill’s Dalziel & Pascoe novels. Plus some new fantasy books such as Trudi Canavan’s “The Magician’s Apprentice” – which I have just started – and it promises to deliver.

Well, I agree if you are thinking a gardening book doesn’t fit your concept of best top fiction books.

But, if you like reading and relaxing there is no better place than to do it in your garden.

I suppose if you are in the Northern Hemisphere, with the current snow storms raging, then the idea won’t really appeal ………. at the moment ……….. but Spring and Summer will return!

So I encourage you to think about your garden and what it takes to be
a beautiful place to relax
a refuge from the phone … leave the cell phone in the house
and how you can care for it.

Hot weather, hot books is my theme for today – as it is so hot here that the only thing to do is grab a book and sit in front of the a/c!    Which I will do immediately after this bit of blogging.

I should have been doing more on this blog – but, as usual, am up to my ears in work and am not organised enough to schedule time!

But, I do have time to read – well, in the evenings anyway.

Recently read – still wending my way through re-reading Harlan Coben’s Myron Bolitar series – such a delight.

Also  am re-reading some of Reginald Hill’s Dalziel and Pascoe novels – well worth your time.  For those of you in the USA – Dalziel is pronounced DEE-EL – go figure!

I note from her Facebook, that Sharon Kay Penman is ploughing ahead with “Lionheart” – can’t wait until it is finished!

WE all saw Susan Boyle on Britains Got Talent TV show – and like the judges, our jaws dropped at the sound of the amazing voice emanating from this unpretentious lady.

Now we can be amazed over again as she has released her new CD – which, incidentally would make a great Christmas gift.

The CD demonstrates that her TV appearance was no fluke or one hit wonder.  Also, she is not just a good voice doing what others can also do.

She has her own sense of timing, phrasing and vocalization that makes her songs unique and beautiful to listen to.
